The American Road Trip
The University of Virginia
Painted in response to Willard Metcalf’s “Captain Lord House in Kennebunkport Maine,” and to T.S. Eliot’s line from “The Wasted Land,”
”April is the cruelest month, breeding lilacs out of the dead land, mixing memory and desire, stirring dull roots with spring rain.”
This painting is the fourth stop along the American Road Trip Series, completely depicted in the 2019 Desk Calendar. The collection was developed in response to several American authors and artists who influenced me through composition, attitude, texture, color, emotion, and spirit of the artwork. The series was in an attempt to capture the timeless American Spirit and focus on the good, pure, nostalgia, purity, and joy of American life.
This is an original watercolor painting on arches watercolor paper measuring 8” x 8 and is signed by the artist.
